In October 1944 the H.Q./C.P. of the 101st Airborne Division was moved to Slijk Ewijk.
At first, the C.P. was situated in the middle of an orchard. As soon as it was found by
the German artillery, it was relocated to buildings (farms) in and around Slijk Ewijk.

On the local cemetery you will also find a seperate field with several Commonwealth graves.

The little village was nicknamed 'Slicky Wicky' by the Allied troops, and is still linked
to Paratroopers of the 101st A/B Division by the Eagle Memorial next to the townhall.

60 Years after WW2, the Screaming Ducks Living History Association also moved their HQ to Slijk Ewijk.

At the end of 2005 we refurbished the top floor of the old barn and redesignated it as
the Screaming Ducks Headquarters, A-Co 502nd PIR is back where it was before.

The Renewed A-Co HQ was re-opened with a January 2006 New Years Meeting and Off the Road Tour.
Roaring through the cold and dealing with the icy frost, our WW2 vehicles showed no signs of aging !
